Scape Park is a day trip, not a Santo Domingo attraction

First, an important clarification. Scape Park is in Cap Cana, on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, roughly a 2.5-hour drive from central Santo Domingo. It is not inside Santo Domingo and it does not contain Los Tres Ojos (those are in the Mirador del Este park in Santo Domingo).

If you are based in Santo Domingo and still want to visit, plan a full-day excursion (5 hours of driving plus 6 to 8 hours in the park). If you want a cenote experience without the drive, see our Los Tres Ojos guide instead. For travellers already in Punta Cana, our sister site has the in-depth guide: hoyoazul.com.

What is Scape Park?

Scape Park is a 400-acre ecological adventure park in Cap Cana. It combines natural attractions (the Hoyo Azul cenote, caves, jungle trails) with adventure activities (ziplines, buggy tours) and cultural experiences. The park is built around the natural landscape rather than over it.

Activities and what to expect

Activity Duration What to expect
Hoyo Azul Cenote 1.5 hrs Nature walk + swim in turquoise cenote
Zipline Circuit 1 hr Multiple lines over jungle canopy
Cave Exploration 45 min Guided tour of limestone caves
Cultural Village 30 min Dominican culture, music, chocolate
Splash Pool Unlimited Natural pool with waterfall

How to get there from Santo Domingo

The drive from central Santo Domingo to Scape Park is about 2.5 hours along Autovia del Este (toll road). A private transfer or rental car costs $120 to $180 round trip for the day. Organized day tours from Santo Domingo are rare since most visitors book Scape Park from Punta Cana resorts. The smarter play is often to base yourself in Punta Cana for a night and book Scape Park from there.

Tips if you do the day trip

  1. Leave at 6 AM, you want to arrive by 9 AM to use the full park day
  2. Bring a swimsuit and water shoes, you will want to swim at Hoyo Azul and the splash pool
  3. Full day pass is better value, individual activities add up quickly
  4. Plan for a 9 PM return, traffic on Autovia del Este is light but the drive is long
  5. Consider an overnight in Punta Cana, it splits the driving and lets you also see the beaches

The closer alternative: Los Tres Ojos

If a 5-hour round trip sounds like too much, Los Tres Ojos in Santo Domingo offers a similar cenote experience (three turquoise lagoons, guided walk, swimming) without leaving the city. It is a half-day visit, not a full day, and tickets start from a fraction of the Scape Park bundle price.

Want a cenote without the long drive?

Los Tres Ojos in Santo Domingo: same kind of turquoise water, half a day instead of full day, no 2.5-hour drive each way.
